FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Material Color showcases the innovative ways some contemporary artists are handling paint. The twenty artists in this exhibition apply oil, acrylic, encaustic and other kinds of pigment using both conventional, as well as unexpected methods. They drip, pour, squeeze, squirt and layer their colors—sometimes even allowing the paint to stand alone as a physical object. These works have strong, assertive surfaces, reminding the viewer that the material quality of paint often carries its own artistic weight. Participating artists are: Cecilia Biagini, Alana Bograd, Ivana Brenner, Omar Chacon, Carlos Estrada-Vega, Peter Fox, Vincent Hamel, Gregg Hill, Wil Jansen, Vadim Katznelson, Lori Kirkbride, Kathleen Kucka, James Lecce, Markus Linnenbrink, Joanne Mattera, Carolanna Parlato, Paul Russo, Robert Sagerman, Louise P. Sloane, and Leslie Wayne. ### about the artist: Ivana Brenner was born in 1982 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Throughout her adolescence, she lived between the city of Buenos Aires and her family’s hometown of Baradero, in the countryside. She received a rigorous traditional education at the Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires, where she graduated with honors from Universidad de Buenos Aires (2004). about the gallery: Hunterdon Art Museum presents changing exhibitions of contemporary art and design in a nineteenth century stone mill that is on the National Register of Historic Places. In this unique setting, the museum, a landmark regional art center since 1952, shows work by established and emerging artists and offers a dynamic schedule of art classes for children and adults. Studio classes, workshops, gallery talks, and docent-led gallery tours are some of the educational programs the museum offers. |
